The Hirst Company was founded in New York in 1968 by Lee and Marie Hirst. They were consummate professionals who believed in the power of public relations and were expert practitioners of media, community and government relations. In 1971, they moved the firm to Albuquerque where it started to establish its roots by working for Bueno Foods and the Maloof Companies. The Hirsts had a distinct impact on the state’s business landscape as they were instrumental in introducing Intel to the area and locating their plant in Rio Rancho.

John Córdova began working with the Hirsts in 1989, when he returned from Washington, D.C. In 1997, he purchased the company from Lee and Marie and changed its name to Hirst Córdova Public Relations. In the spring of 2006, the company moved into larger offices and changed its name to Córdova Public Relations.
